5 Anti-Aging Skin Care Tips for Your Neck

Your facial skin care routine is as perfect as they come, but are you extending the attention down to your neck as well? If the answer is no, you could be in for some unwanted signs of premature skin aging. The reason being that neck skin, in addition to being thin and more susceptible to damage, is often neglected in a skin care routine, and as a result can reveal clues to your actual age, or—worse yet—make you look older than your years. We spoke to board-certified dermatologist, SkinCeuticals ambassador, and Skincare.com consultant, Dr. Karen Sra for tips on how to keep saggy neck skin— or “turkey neck”—at bay. Scroll through for her top five tips for a younger-looking neck.

Gently cleanse your skin
You’ve heard it time and time again: cleansing your skin is one of the most important steps to any daily skin care routine, regardless of age or skin type. Just like you would with your face, it’s essential to cleanse beyond your chin. Washing your face and neck morning and night keeps your pores clear of dirt and impurities. Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen prior to heading outdoors
We’ll take every opportunity we can get to remind you of the importance of wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen day in and day out, even if it’s cloudy. The harsh UVA and UVB rays can wreak havoc on your skin, so it’s important to wear a broad-spectrum SPF 15 or higher to help protect your body’s largest organ. Repeated sun damage over time can cause the skin to age, leading to more pronounced signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine, lines, and discoloration. Be sure to reapply your sunscreen at least every two hours to all areas of exposed skin. To learn more about how to find the right sunscreen for your skin type, click here.
Editor’s note: There is currently no sunscreen on the market that blocks out 100% of UVA and UVB rays. For additional support, shield your skin by wearing protective clothing, such as wide-brimmed hats and long sleeves.

Apply an antioxidant
Dr. Sra recommends incorporating topical antioxidants in tandem with your sunscreen, as doing so can help protect your skin against skin-damaging free radicals triggered by environmental aggressors. One of her favorites is SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF, a broad-range antioxidant serum—formulated for normal to oily skin types—that contains a unique molecular combo with vitamin C, phloretin, and ferulic acid. As for what it can do, the serum helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
If you have dry, normal, or sensitive skin, Dr. Sra recommends SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. This beloved vitamin C serum helps to improve signs of aging in addition to protecting the skin against environmental damage.

Moisturize every night
Dry skin doesn’t cause wrinkles, but it can certainly accentuate their appearance. What’s more? As time passes, our skin’s ability to retain moisture decreases. This makes applying moisturizer even more crucial, especially since the skin on the neck is more delicate than anywhere else on the body. To avoid “turkey neck,” it’s important to coat the area with a layer of moisturizer each and everyday. Here, we share a list of the best moisturizers to apply to your neck every night.

Use a firming cream
Last but certainly not least, Dr. Sra recommends using a firming cream daily. In addition to hydration, using potent formulas that can improve the skin’s overall texture can make a world of difference. SkinCeuticals Neck, Chest & Hand Repair is a body cream designed specifically for skin on the neck, chest, and hands. This brightening and redensifying treatment can help protect the skin from age spots, while supporting collagen levels to alleviate crepiness. For best results, apply it twice daily.
